He studied at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he bagged a degree in Human Resource.

Joeboy grew up during a musical family; his older brother was within the choir, and his dad played the keyboard in church.

According to him, he was inspired by the likes of 9ice and ID Cabasa, whom he used to hang out within the studio.

Joeboy started his singing career at the age of 16 and recorded his first song “Gbeseyin,” an Afrobeat tune, at the age of 17.

How did you get the name “Joeboy”?

He replies; well, it’s a high school nickname, my name is Joseph, but my peeps kept calling me Joeboy, and therefore the name stuck.

What’s your biggest Inspiration?

He takes a touch while to think before he replies; well I won’t say it’s God that’s the Inspiration all the time, it might be a touch child, it is often anything, it is usually your mood, your environment but at the top, it’s God that controls everything. He ends his reply with a giggle.

When did you begin making music?

Joeboy; Been making music since I used to be 17, but I started officially in 2017.

What genre of music does one make?

Joeboy; Basically, I make any genre, but it must have a spark of African techno sound, so anyone that hears it anywhere would be like yes, this boy is from Africa.

Joeboy; Still within the process.

How does one combine music and schooling?

Joeboy; it wasn’t that difficult on behalf of me, it just has got to do with planning and making proper use of some time.

Joeboy, Uhhm, my most significant break thus far was when my shape of your cover blew up. That was once I started my music career officially.

What’s your opinion regarding fashion and music?

Joeboy, I feel they are free hand in hand; for instance, within the music videos, you need a stylist to urge you the proper stuff cos most times the artists are usually busy recording and dealing on other stuff and have a tendency to neglect their fashion style.

What do you think are the challenges up and coming artistes face in the industry?

Joeboy, Basically, in the Nigerian music industry, I feel the main challenges are having connections and also financial resources. Still, regardless of the stage, you’re in only keep building your relationships.
